Monica Scott, cello

Hadley McCarroll, piano

Equally passionate about music, cuisine, art, and history cellist Monica Scott and pianist Hadley McCarroll formed the duo martha & monica in 2006. After a wonderful experience together performing Schnittke's Sonata No. 1 at St. John's Presbyterian Church in Berkeley, the duo set out to perform programs chosen for their thematic, geographic or emotional relevance. They delight in diverse repertoire–from Schubert, Brahms and Poulenc to Schumann, Carter and Denisov. Now beginning their third season, martha & monica have performed over a dozen programs, drawing on their unique programming, including 100 Years of Russian Revolution, Voyage, Out of the Mists, and Papillons.

Pianist Hadley McCarroll is well-known to local audiences. In addition to ten years in the vocal/instrumental trio The Mirage Ensemble, she is an internationally sought after opera coach and collaborative pianist with companies such as the Royal Danish Opera, Utah Festival Opera and the San Francisco Opera.

Cellist Monica Scott has enjoyed a varied career spanning solo, orchestral and chamber music, touring Europe, the U.S.A, Argentina and South Korea. She is a devoted teacher, coaching chamber music in the San Francisco Bay area, and serves on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Preparatory Department (cello), The Crowden School, Berkeley (chamber music coach) and College Preparatory School, Oakland (chamber music coach). Monica performed four seasons with the San Francisco-based Del Sol String Quartet, and is the cellist with the composer/performer/improviser collective sfSoundGroup.
