Luna Nova Quartet is an unprecedented chamber music ensemble formed to instill and inspire the traditional quartet medium with a compelling instrumental voice and fresh experience for the chamber audience. Luna Nova Quartet looks to the past, present and future of chamber music, introducing the mandolin into this new, dynamic format, as it has never been represented previously.
Combining the unique, melodic layering of the mandolin with the traditional elements of the standard string ensemble, Luna Nova Quartet's concept results in a delightful balance of the innovative with the classical...the modern infused with the traditional; thus, fascinating and delighting audiences with contemporary energy and expression through imaginative arrangements, original compositions and folk music adaptations.
In addition, the group features original interpretations of some of the great traditional classical instrumental works by master composers, such as J.S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Ludwig van Beethoven, Erik Satie, Gioacchino Rossini and Antonin Dvorak. Luna Nova Quartet considers its repertoire a continual work in progress incorporating inventive ideas into an exciting performance presentation.
World-class artists, the members of Luna Nova Quartet render spirited, passionate interpretations that will enthrall the listener, and present audiences with a colorful new instrumental voice that will engage the senses!
Our Mission: To present a professional chamber music ensemble of the highest standards, highlighting the mandolin in a serious light as a classical music instrument, yet always with the goal in mind of giving the audience accessibility and a sense of fun through our presentations.
Luna Nova Quartet is a unique chamber music ensemble, due to the nature of the mandolin itself as a classical music instrument. The mandolin fascinates audiences with its delicate and beautiful sound and unusual texture with string trio. Although it has a more recent history than that of the violin, the mandolin's history parallels the development of the modern violin. There are striking similarities between the two instrument families and this serves as a significant point of discussion in our presentations.
