ChamberBridge, the musical partnership of Lara Bruckmann, soprano, and Eva-Maria Zimmerman, piano, is excited to announce a new series of projects. Each one is dedicated to a selected 20th/21st Century composer, exploring and honoring that composer’s work in the context of their compositional lineage. The first such project will happen in San Francisco, in Fall 2008, as a homage to French composer Olivier Messiaen in celebration of the centenary of his birth (December 10th, 1908).
“Homage to Messiaen”
The day-long festival will feature three full concert programs as well as a video presentation, an artist reception, and much more. ChamberBridge is programming works of a whole family tree of composers around Messiaen, reaching from his teachers Paul Dukas and Maurice Emmanuel to the 2nd and 3rd generation of Messiaen’s students, represented by Pierre Boulez, Ed Campion, Ron Bruce Smith, Gabriela Lena Frank, Mei-Fang Lin and others. Some of these composers will be present to discuss their works and connections with Messiaen.
The newest works on the program will be commission/premieres by Gabriela Lena Frank and Mei-Fang Lin, the later using a poem written by Messiaen’s mother Cécile Sauvage about her experiences of pregnancy and early motherhood.
While focusing on works for voice and piano, these programs will be enriched by collaborations with sfSound, the Del Sol String Quartet, and possibly Ondes Martenot player Mary Chun.
